A man of few words, but mostly high kicks and tub thumping boxing technique “The Red Scorpion” Alexey Ignashov is set to return. The “big one” which he has lined up for next February is with Frenchman Gregory Tony on the King of Oceania World Series. In preparation, 21st December on the ETK (Elite Thai Kick Boxing) super card to be held at the Free-mans bay community centre in Auckland, he will let loose against a young, vibrant and awkwardly unorthodox, yet highly entertaining Jason “Razor-blade” Retti.

Back to roots: Red Scorpion to come back big!
The Scorpion King, who has been in virtual hibernation for almost fifteen months, has found his new home at the world famous Balmoral Lee Gar. Parting company with the controversially farcical ex-manager, Igor Jushko he now looks set to go on an adventure which would see him to world conquering glory- we strongly hope. Back to basics against a young gun will be his best bet, to get rid of some ring rust and eventually the frustration of not making it any bigger than where he is now. ROGUE will have an exclusive into a sensational and eventful parting company on Ignashov and Jushko very shortly.

Gregory at the moment for the Belarusian star, now residing in Auckland might seem distant. The recently announced KO-World series, which promoter Dixon McIver unveiled on a relative low key has attracted a host of fighters, especially at the heavyweight ranks who haven’t been given opportunity on the K-1 world circuit. Jason Suttie, who leads the way made it very public on the New Zealand Herald: even though his case was highlighted four years too late signing up for a super fight against Wellington’s toughest son in Leamy “Tyson” Tato.

The KO card- that’s great! But hold your horses for the moment as a world class fighter in Ignashov will look to conjure some ring time against a relative rookie Retti, who is well known for his spinning back-fist, just ask ex- NZ strong man Rueben De Jong. ROGUE aptly nick named this signature yet unorthodoxly executed move as the “Spinning Jenny”, when he defeated the 6”10 De Jong at the inaugural KO. Three rounds of K-1 style rules on the short scope of things will benefit Alexei, and if clinical points win is the case it would be all the more better. Then again on the other hand Retti, who has a habit of throwing a spanner to the works, has a knack to upset.  Jason who has kept himself busy taking to pro-boxing hasn’t been the most active either and the step up for this fight in staring down a 6 foot 5”, 85 fight veteran who has traded with some of the best in the business.

Having said that Ignashov is no Reuben and his experience suggested by his record (85-74-11: Fights, won and loss) far out weighs what some of the more prominent heavy hitters in NZ combined have to offer. All in all this fight is tantalising for two reasons, the first being the return of the red scorpion and the second it will create so much interest worldwide, and especially Jushko and the K-1 honing in on the Kiwi fight scene, it will be interesting times. It could very well be drama, contractual high noon theatrics along with internet war rooms on forums. Drama is good, selling it is even better- hopefully buying a glimpse of it won’t cost an arm or a leg.

ROGUE comment:
We reliably learn that Ignashov has been approached by several vested “parties” and “requested” not to participate on local promotions and especially the KO WS. We intend to fully investigate this and should have yet another exclusive on the Scorpion tales. Not to forget the card will see Jason Sutties return as well, as we reported a week or so ago against Charles Smiler. More information to follow!

Upset beckons? Retti’ will give it his all
