His name is Johnny Gui and he is, gently put: an untapped resource, they say that the south Islands water tastes better. The same can be translated for its style and calibre of up and coming fighters. Especially on the mat and Mixed Martial Arts!

 
Fighting out of NZ Fight and fitness Academy Dunedin, Johnny Gui leads a strong team that includes fighters such as Matt "no tap" Toa and Apii Taia, most respected and well known stand up fighters.
 
Also all the way from Taurunga was Crolin Gracie Jui Jitsiu, they didn’t come all the way to the south Island for nothing totalling a tally of 5 medals for 3 people. Trainer Roney Da Silva handles his cares very well and trained to make others tap.

Christchurch local heroes included the well rounded Scotty Benson, Cam Steer, Erskin, Marcelo Lopez and one of South Islands newest talents Gareth Ealey, who did extremely well defeating Marcelo Lopez in the No gi final. It was a huge surprise and heralds the start of a talented career which could go all the way.
 
UMAF promoter Kerry Saggers was included in mix, but he wasn’t there to enjoy the show, he was there to fight and fight he did losing a points decision to Marcelo Lopez.
 
Hayden Wilson, promoter and clothing entrepreneur (Xplosive) conducted a very successful show, it is promotions like this that help the sport flourish and grow and showcase just what NZ really has to offer when it comes to the ground game.
